Kanakara
Every Gram Accounted For
हर ग्राम का पूरा हिसाब • कनकारा
Shaped by Hand,
Sold by the Gram.
Kanakara keeps its workbench behind the counter. Hallmarked 22K gold and sterling silver, made to order and billed by the gram. Each piece is weighed again as you watch, and that figure is the one on your invoice.
Most of what we make marks an occasion: a wedding set, a child's first bangle, anklets for a new bride, silver for the festival puja. Our karigars work from your reference, and no gold is cut until you have approved the drawing.
On the Counter,
At the Bench.
Twelve kinds of ornament we stock or make to order, and six jobs our workbench takes on. If what you want is not listed, ask: it can usually be made.
Haar, tikka, nath and earrings designed together, so stones, finish and weight agree.
Uncut polki and kundan stones bedded in pure gold foil, with enamel colour on the back.
Everyday studs and hoops through to heavy jhumka and chand bali for festive wear.
Solid and hollow kangan, carved or plain, fitted to your own wrist at the counter.
Black-bead designs from a slim office length to a long ceremonial strand, and plain chains.
Couple bands, birthstone and navratna rings, a fine laung for every day, or a bridal nath.
Payal with or without ghungroo, toe rings, a kandora waist chain and tiny kada for babies.
Thalis, lamps, kalash, small idols and their thrones, in solid silver for the home mandir.
Single-stone and cluster rings, studs and pendants, in 18K, which grips a claw more firmly.
Single and layered moti mala and pearl drops, strung on silk with a knot between pearls.
Coins with a Lakshmi face, sold by weight for Dhanteras, a shagun envelope or a new home.
Heavier chains, kada and signet rings, and sherwani buttons for the groom's side.
Work from a picture, a drawing or a family heirloom. Before work begins you get three figures: expected weight, making charge and a ready date.
We test your old gold for purity at the counter, agree its value with you, and take that amount off your new purchase.
The bill lists purity, gold weight, any stone weight, the making charge and GST line by line, and set stones come with a certificate.
Snapped chains, lost stones, a dented kada, a tired finish. We clean ultrasonically and re-plate white gold with rhodium.
Rings are resized while you wait. An old set that sits in the locker can be remade into lighter pieces for daily use.
Bullion prices move daily, so we quote them live rather than print them. Ring +1 555 0100 or message us for today's rate per gram.
Six Trays, One by One

From Drawing
to Delivery.
Every commission follows the same six steps. Drop in at any stage and we will show you how far your piece has come.
Design
We start from your reference and settle the design, an estimated weight and the making charge. Nothing moves forward until you are happy with all three.
Weigh
The metal goes on a calibrated scale with the display turned towards you. Any old gold you are trading in is tested for purity and priced alongside it.
Cast & Draw
Gold is melted, pulled into wire or rolled flat, then shaped with hammer, file and pliers at the karigar's bench.
Set
The setter secures each stone under a loupe. For kundan, gold foil is packed around every stone; any enamel on the back is fired before the stones go in.
Hallmark
Finished gold goes out to a BIS-recognised hallmarking centre for testing. It comes back laser-marked with the BIS logo, a purity grade and its own HUID.
Finish
The piece is polished, cleaned and weighed one last time against the estimate. It comes to you with an itemised GST bill, plus a certificate for any stones.
Three Marks
Worth Checking.
A hallmark only helps if you can read it. These are the three stamps on hallmarked gold jewellery in India, and what each one tells you about the piece in your hand.
The BIS Logo
A triangle for the Bureau of Indian Standards. It shows the gold was tested by an independent, BIS-recognised hallmarking centre rather than marked by the seller.
The Purity Number
22K916 is 916 parts gold in every 1000, the usual grade for Indian jewellery. 18K750 is three-quarters gold and harder, so it suits stone settings. 14K585 is 58.5%.
The HUID
Six letters and numbers issued to one piece only. Enter them under Verify HUID in the BIS Care app to see the record logged for that piece, on your own phone.
| Karat | Grade | Gold Content | Best Suited To |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24K | 999 | 99.9% | Bullion coins and bars. Too soft to hold its shape as jewellery. |
| 22K | 916 | 91.6% | Most of our gold work: wedding sets, necklaces, kada and chains. |
| 18K | 750 | 75.0% | Diamond and gemstone settings, where a firmer metal grips better. |
| 14K | 585 | 58.5% | Lightweight daily wear and contemporary designs. |
| Silver | 925 | 92.5% | Payal, toe rings, children's jewellery and gifts. |
A fair bill shows gold weight, stone weight, the making charge and GST as separate figures. That holds at any jeweller, not only ours: if a line is unclear, ask about it before you pay.

What People
Usually Ask
Is every gold piece hallmarked? +
Yes. Our gold jewellery carries the BIS logo, a purity grade (usually 22K916) and its own six-character HUID, which you can look up yourself in the BIS Care app; the guide above shows where each stamp sits.
Can you copy a design from a photo? +
Yes, and much of our work starts that way. Send a picture, a screenshot or an old piece, and we will estimate its weight and making charge, and give you a ready date, before work begins. A full wedding set needs more time than a ring, so the date is fixed when you order.
Will you take my old gold? +
Yes. We clean it and test its purity at the counter, agree a value with you, and take that off the price of your new piece. An old receipt helps if you have one, but it is not required.
Why is the gold rate not shown here? +
Because it moves daily, and a printed figure would soon be wrong. Ring or message +1 555 0100 and we will quote 22K, 18K and silver per gram, plus the making charge on whatever you have chosen.
What paperwork comes with a purchase? +
An itemised GST invoice listing the purity, the gold weight, any stone weight and the making charge, plus a certificate for diamonds or gemstones. Hold on to both; you will want them if you exchange or sell the piece later.
Do you stock silver? +
Yes: payal, toe rings, kandora and baby kada in 925, and solid silver thalis, lamps, kalash and small idols for the mandir. Silver coins are in demand before Dhanteras, so order them early.
Where are you, and should I book? +
Shop 12, Kanak Gali, in the Old City, south-west of the clock tower. You can walk in without booking; for wedding sets or remodelling work, message ahead so we can give you an unhurried hour.
Will you repair jewellery bought elsewhere? +
Yes. Snapped chains, loose clasps, lost stones, dented kada, faded rhodium and ring resizing are routine for us, wherever the piece came from. Small repairs are often finished the same day.
